Parish or town councils are the most local level of government in England. They are independent of district and county councils but maintain a close working relationship with both. You can vote in your local parish council elections if you live in the area it covers and you will receive a polling card automatically if you are on the electoral register.
Who are we? The Parish Council usually five members, who are unpaid volunteers, and elections are held every four years.
What do we do? The Parish Council duties include:
- Reviewing and commenting on planning applications within the Parish
- Liaising with the relevant authorities regarding infrastructure /policing/community issues to represent your views and get the best advantage for the local area
- Engaging with all interested parties regarding the current and future shape of life in the local area
